Biography
The Irish-born poet William Henry Drummond (1854-1907) emigrated to Canada when he was a boy, settling in Montreal. Drummond practiced medicine for several years in the Eastern Townships along the St. Lawrence River and his poems drew on his experiences there. He often wrote in the local dialect, publishing six popular poetry collections, including The Habitant and Other French-Canadian Poems.
